Spaying and Neutering

Neutering

A bitch can best be neutered 3 months after the first heat. Neutering reduces the risk for mammary gland tumours and deminishes the risk for uterine infections. The bitch will no longer experience heat periods and is no longer attractive to male dogs.

After neutering the energy requirement of your dog decreases. This means that she should eat 20-40% less food to remain at the same weight. Regular weight check ups are recommended after neutering your dog, to ensure a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Spaying

Male dogs can be spayed for medical reasons or behavioural reasons. Chemical spaying provides an hormonal injection that mimics the effect of surgical spaying for 6 months to 1 year. We usually recommend chemical spaying prior to surgical spaying, unless the procedure is indicated for medical reasons.
